Boyle is known for his verbal exuberance and his scathing wit, but not for what is glaringly apparent to us: his abiding interest in the environment and his satirical, often hilarious, treatment of major environmental issues, from global warming to species extinction to suburban sprawl. Perhaps Boyle is not regarded as an 'environmental writer' because people don't believe that anyone so consumed by the subject can also have a sense of humor."
